"Me?" the kid said, jumping. "Yea, yea, fine...absolutely fine, nothing wrong here," he said frantically. He started to step backwards again. "I-if anyone asks, I was never here."
"Whoa, whoa, slow down," Rory said, his eyes narrowed as he scrutinized him. "You...you stole some guy's wallet?"
"I told you I didn't! Stop asking!" he shouted.

Alice had stood up by now, walking over to the younger boy. She then smiled sweetly and looked at him with large brown eyes. "Well, if you didn't do anything you can stay here and talk with us."She said to him in an innocent voice. That was true. Or if he did do something, then he would most likely refuse the offer.
She continued to look at him. She did agree with Rory's judement that most likely the young boy did commit some sort of theft. However, she had her own way of learning information.

"I-I...well..." Slowly the kid's speach began to slow down with a great effort. "I can't. You see...my mom is expecting me for dinner." He began backing away again, slower. Truth be told though, he didn't seem to keen to go back into the treeline and Rory guessed that people were still looking for him.
"Look, just calm down, we won't tell anyone."
The kid's eyes hardened. But he was no fool. "Fine..." he said under his breath.

Alice sighed. She did not know much about this boy yet she felt a bit sorry from him. There was curiousity swimming with the brown orbs upon her face. "So, what happened?"She asked him. There was a softness in her voice when she asked so.

The rain was soaking his clothes so badly he might as well have gone swimming in the creek. He brushed some of his wet hair out of his eyes before stuffing his hands into his pockets and shuffling his feet a little.
"I...I don't know," the kid said awkwardly, looking away. He wanted to get it out, but at the same time something he wanted to just be as far away as possible. "I was in a store, out of the rain, and the guy left his wallet on the counter. I just...I needed the money and...so I grabbed it. The stupid clerk had to raise the alarm. So I ran here. Dead end."
Rory stood up as he heard sirens in the distance over the unending pound of the rain. His eyes were neither accusing nor understanding, just curios and reserving judgement. "Why did you steal it?"
"Because I need it!"

Alice faintly heard the siren's rings throughout the rain's soft beating. She wondered why exactly the boy "needed" the money. There were two many possibilities, none that Alice could eliminate down to. She was not sure what to say at first.
"Well, why don't you return the wallet?"She then asked the boy. Her silky blond hair fell over her shoulder as she asked him this. "Stealing isn't really the best way to get money..."

"No!" he shouted venomously. "Besides, even if I do the police will get their hands on me and I am NOT going with them!"
"Why? Are you in trouble with the law?" Rory reasoned.
"No!"
"Then what?!"
The kid was silent for a moment. He could hear the sirens as well and knew that the police would already be searching the trees for him. "I'm not going back," he said at last. "Not to the foster home, not to my great aunt's. I want my real family, wherever they may be. But I need money."

'So...'
The rain still fell gently. Sirens could be heard. Soon the police would be searching in the area. When they came upon the trio they would surely search them, finding the boy eventually.
'He just wants his family then...'
It was interesting to see how far someone would go just to be, or even see their loved ones. Alice wondered what had happened to this boy that separated him from his family. How could she respond to this though.
She looked at the boy. "I've never stolen, so I don't reallly know, but I think it best if maybe you at least let either Rory or I take back the wallet."She said.

"No! I told you, I need it!" the kid shouted.
Rory exchanged a glance with Alice before an idea came to him. Stepping forward boldly, the kid in turn took a step back. "If you don't hand over the wallet, we'll tell the police where you are right now," Rory said firmly.
"You wouldn't!" the kid shouted back.
"You wanna bet?" Rory asked with a smirk. He half turned towards the sound of the sirens. When the kid continued to be silent Rory began to walk towards them.
"Wait!" the boy shouted. His eyes held desperation and total loathing for these two as he stared between them. This is what you get for trusting people. He swallowed hard, but pulled one of his hands out of his pocket, a black leather wallet nestled there.
"Thank you," Rory said briskly as he took the wallet. "Be right back," he added with a wave before running off towards the sirens again.

Alice sighed. She wished in a way Rory did not have to do that, but she could understand it would be the only way to get the wallet away from the boy.
She noticed how soak the young boy had become, so she took her umbrella holding it over him. There were a few moments of silence. She really did not have much to say, not much of her voice could do anyone any good at the time. "Do..you live near by...?"She asked trying to start a little talk in the meantime.

((Lol! Ackward silence))
The kid fixed her with a glare. "No," he said shortly. He knew that he had no real right to be mad at these two. They were only tryintg to help. But if they really wanted to help they would have let him keep the money. These people didn't know what it was like...
"Who are you?" he asked then, showing a bit of grudging curiosity.

Alice looked away, feeling maybe she should just stay quiet. "Oh, ok.."She said softly. Was he really angry about the wallet situation? How bad could this kid be living? Alice wanted to ask so badly and the urge was just tugging at her. She managed to stay quiet though. She looked back at him when he asked who she was. "My name is Alice. The boy who just left to return the wallet was Rory."She said to him. "What's your name?"She asked him. ~~~ A hawk was perched on the tree brank. It was under a mass of leaves, so it was barely managing to keep it's golden-brown feathers dry. Still it was not really happy about the rain. That hawk's head turned quickly as sirens could be heard not too far away. It let out a bird-screech, annoyed by the high-pitched sirens.

"Haru," he said, his hands in his pockets again.
There was the sound of something moving in the underbrush and Rory came back, brushing mud off his pants to no real avail. "Back," he said with a grin.
"What did you tell them?" Haru snapped accusingly.
Rory shrugged. "Don't worry, I fed them some story that I saw a kid running by and he dropped the wallet, then I took it back. Honestly I don't think the police cared either way as long as they got the wallet...aaaannnd a description of you."
Haru sighed. Oh well, they probably had security videos of him back at the store anyways. "Thanks," he said grudgingly. Suddenly the hawk's cry sounded above him and Haru snapped his head up in surprize. "Wow...do you see that?" he asked the others, a tinge of awe entering his voice. It was a strange change after the harshness he'd been using.

Alice nodded at his name. "That's an interesting name."She said when Haru gave his name.
She listened to the two boys talk after Rory showed. 'Well for now everytihng is ok..'Alice thought to herself as she looked down for a few seconds. There was a distant look on her face, the type of look you got sometimes when not exactly being talked to. She was still listening to what Rory and Haru were saying in the back of her mind.
Then what Haru said got her full attention.
Alice had also heard the Hawk cry, the all too familiar hawk cry. She looked up to see the hawk and it clicked in her head. She would recognize that hawk anywhere. 'When did he get here?'She mentally wondered.
The hawk saw all three pairs of eyes were upon itself. He personally did not like humans, they were not trustworthy at all. However, the female in the group seemed...alright. She was the only one he would trust. The other two he would not let them come near him at all.

Rory noticed how Alice practically jumped out of her boots when she saw the hawk and he laughed. "Don't worry, it won't bite," he said with a grin, clearly misunderstanding her. Glancing up at the hawk his grin widened in awe himself. "Ooh, redtail. I didn't know they nested around here, that's cool!"
"Know-it-all," Haru muttered.
Rory cast him a sidelong glance that was hard to read. "Right...er...you guys want to get out of the rain for a while?"
